Finally tried out the 1/2" WoodSlicer on my Grizzly 18". WOW! That is the nicest running, vibration free, weld problem free blade I've ever seen. I used it over the weekend to cut some veneers (0.018" and 0.029" rough size) for purfling lines. The stock was 4" wide and 36" long. Over the whole cut, the variation is about 0.002"-0.003"! That's in the form of very slight saw marks. Photo below with backlight showing through the veneers. I can't wait to try some real resawing! And now I hear (in one of the other threads) WoodSlicer has a 3/4" blade. Gotta try one of those as well as the other blades suggested in the 18" bandsaw thread. Pete ![]() |

Too cool, I fought with my cheap import bandsaw all weekend and it won. One of these days soon, I'll get a real saw. Well, it has served my for about 15 years now so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I think I paid about $150 for it. |

Wow! Pete that is impressive! What kind of wood is that? Jeff |

Congratulations Pete. There is nothing more fun than resawing success. I'm totally impressed with your results. Not only does it speak highly of the Woodslicer, it highlights the quality of the saw... and expert setup by the operator! |

Bruce - Let's just let it speak highly of the operator's setup! ;-) The saw, and all it took to get it running well, is not the highest quality. Jeff - Aspen from Home Shallow. I use that as a wood for lines when a wood whiter than maple is required. I find that especially the thin maple lines (0.012/0.3mm) sometimes seem to "disappear" especially if installing with CA. John - $150? That's $10/year ... I agree, no need to complain. |

Have you ever tried Holly. It is the whitest wood I know? |

No, I haven't tried Holly, Bob, but have looked for it. Anything I've come across was pretty bad quality, and wasn't that white either, so I haven't bought any yet. I hear that Holly does some neat sort of shimmery things in the light when under a finish, which would be a cool thing. |

I've had the same experience as Pete. My local Woodcraft store carries holly most of the time. But I have yet to find a piece of it that was worth buying. I keep looking though ![]() |

All right you guys, I'll fess up where to buy the good stuff. I used to make scale model sailing ships and instead of paint, I would use different woods for the necessary color, therefore I search for the best spots. Google The Lumberyard for Modelers, call and make sure he sends you whites or you might like the light pinkish hue that some holly has. |

Thanks for the suggestion, Bob. Just yesterday I was in Woodcraft and all the Holly they had was tan and rather gnarly looking. Yuck! |

I used one of those for a while and loved it but I kinked it and just never got around to replacing it. Gary |
